For my learning project I am going to be learning more about crochet. Specifically, I want to learn how to read crochet patterns and learn new stitches to create more of a variety in the projects I create. My interest in crochet started when I was young, about 7 or 8 years old. My grandmother introduced me and my siblings to crochet to keep our hands busy without making a mess. My sister and I quickly became obsessed with crochet and did it every chance we got. Throughout my life I have always continued to crochet and have learned a little to improve my skills but lacked time to improve significantly. Currently, I can make simple projects when I follow a video-tutorial, however videos are not always available. I am also very limited in my range of stitches as I only know three; the single crochet, double crochet, and half double crochet. Within this range I have made a couple toques, one blanket and a couple of small items for decoration. I am hoping with learning these new skills, I will be able to create my own ideas and translate them into crochet without relying on other peoples’ skills to do so. By the end of this project, I am hoping to be finished at least 1 crochet baby blanket to improve my skills. The blanket is inspired by this this blanket by 365DaysOfDana on YouTube This blanket has a lot of creativity in the pattern, and lots of opportunity to learn new things so I think this will be a good show of what I am able to learn!. I would also like to create something based on my knowledge of being able to read patterns, so I would like to create a decorative item from the pattern only. I would like to finish these two items for this project and I am excited to start the process! My plan is to learn how to read the patterns slowly through the first two weeks, and by the third week I will be able to read patterns and create designs instead of watching someone else do it. By the fourth week I would like to start a project by following the pattern only, so that I have ample time to do both projects in the semester! For the blanket, I want to make about three granny-squares each week, so I have ample time to finish the baby blanket. I believe once I start getting into the habit and understanding the stitches more, I will be able to accomplish this task quickly! To do this, I will be utilizing YouTube to teach me new stitches and the abbreviations for the stitches. I will also be using Crochet Ville to help inspire me for new projects and read about how to fix problems I may come across. I am excited to start learning more about crochet!
